As an English instructor at Long Beach City College in California, teaching Homer’s Illiad & Odyssey had inspired Toma to create the Greek Mythological Series (in) as part of his Fine Art Bronze collection. The inspiration came from his long time admiration for the warriors and heroes, and his fascination with the beauty of Greek armor, especially the exquisitely designed Corinthian-type helmets with their horse hair plumage (created) that were favored in the 8th Century B.C. “Ulysses - Resting before the Walls of Troy” is the first sculpture presented for the series, depicting Ulysses contemplating a Trojan Horse, the deceptive ploy that he masterminded with his cleverness and cunning ways. The second presentation is “Achilles confronts Hector,” depicting the greatest of all Greek warriors in anger and ferocious determination as he strides head down to engage Hector. The third work in the historical series is the Trojan Horse.
